Jefferson Parish is unnecessarily spending almost half a million dollars annually on its small-claims court system, making its justices of the peace and constables the highest paid in Louisiana, Inspector General David McClintock said in a report Wednesday (March 11). The money goes to salaries, personal benefits and operational costs that state law does not require the parish to cover.
