A wide-ranging audit into a politically connected Jefferson Parish nonprofit has been forwarded to prosecutors and could be the subject of future investigation by the parish Inspector General’s Office, officials said Monday.
The state legislative auditor’s report on Thompson-Thibodeaux Community Development Corp., which is accused of funneling money to well-connected contractors, drew sharp rebukes from former Parish Councilman Byron Lee, who set up the program, and his successor, Councilman Mark Spears.
